Our trip to Thailand was to take us to another region before we went to Hua Hin. To be precise, we were in the absolute best location in Bangkok: super central, right next to Lumpini Park, Bangkok’s green oasis.

We chose this location because family from Berlin were visiting us in Thailand, and we were looking for a central location from which we could reach everything quickly. We wanted to experience a mix of nightlife, culture, nature, and the hustle and bustle of the city without having to travel far, and this is absolutely possible in this location.

We were booked into the SO/ Bangkok, which in the end convinced us not only because of its good location but also because you can read for yourself below.

Stylish hotel rooms designed according to elements

When choosing a hotel, it is not only the location that is important to us; we also always need a place where we feel comfortable, which is achieved through an appealing design, among other things. This is exactly what the SO/ Bangkok can offer. It offers a super modern design but with a special twist:

The hotel is an urban design hotel offering themed rooms around the five elements – metal, wood, earth, water, and fire. Inspired and innovative, it is a collaboration between Thailand’s leading design firms and an award-winning architect.

We were able to indicate our two favorite elements in advance and ended up being booked into a room in the water category. It’s no wonder that this element was Jacky’s favorite, as it somehow fits into the current time when there is not much keeping us away from the water and surfing.

Once we got to the room, we knew we had made the right decision. We got a SO Comfy Room with a Park View, which, as the name suggests, offered us a view over the entire park and also towards Bangkok Central.

In general, the room was very spacious, with a large and comfortable bed, a small walk-in closet with a dressing table, and a large bathroom with a bathtub, from which you could also enjoy the view over the park and Bangkok. The room also had a comfortable sofa and a workspace—we wanted for nothing.

The FLOOR/ 9 – a special highlight

FLOOR/ 9 was recently reopened at SO/ Bangkok and is definitely one of the hotel’s gems.

As soon as we arrived, we were taken here for check-in. While everything was being prepared, we were able to make ourselves comfortable and marvel at the panoramic view of the park and the impressive city skyline while enjoying a drink. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel are the offices of major companies and financial institutions, as well as the shopping and nightlife hotspots of the Silom district. Just steps away, the Saladaeng Skytrain and Lumpini subway stations provide quick and easy access to the city’s many cultural, commercial, and entertainment attractions. We were able to view all of this from above.

FLOOR/ 9 also has a small bar where you can enjoy great pre-dinner drinks in the evening or just sit and have a coffee during the day.

Vegan food in Thailand’s metropolis

On the first evening, we decided to have dinner at the hotel a little later. We invited the family to our hotel and tried everything on the buffet in the Red Oven restaurant.

The hotel offered several vegan options, even without asking. On request, many dishes from the buffet were prepared as vegan options. The service immediately impressed us, and the food was a real 10/10.

For non-vegans, the buffet offers an incredibly large selection of dishes ranging from fish to meat and a whole lot more. There are traditional, local dishes as well as dishes from all over the world to discover.

Breakfast at SO/ Bangkok was also served in the Red Oven Restaurant. Let’s start by saying that the breakfast was the same size as our buffet at dinner. The SO/ Bangkok really doesn’t disappoint at all, and we were rather overwhelmed by the options than missing anything.

There were also many vegan options at breakfast, a Healthy Corner where juices were freshly made, and energy balls to snack on.

The SO/ Spa offers pure relaxation

In addition to the great pool area, a very special highlight was our visit to the SO/ Spa. We love to relax with a massage and try out different massages, especially when we are in Asia.

We tried the Soothing Coco Body Massage at the SO/ Bangkok spa. It was 90 minutes of pure relaxation and, quite honestly, one of the best massages we’ve ever had – and we’ve tried quite a few. Above all, it wasn’t a typical Thai massage, where opinions differ somewhat. We felt really well looked after and treated.

Lumpini Park – A green oasis in the middle of Bangkok

Now, to our stay outside the hotel. As already mentioned, we met up with the family we hadn’t seen for 5 months.

As is somehow classic, we met in a large mall in Lumpini Park and then decided at relatively short notice to go to Lumpini Park with something cold and a snack – our personal highlight.

Bangkok can sometimes be overwhelming – hectic, loud, and full of life. But in the middle of this vibrant city, there is a place that offers exactly the opposite: Lumpini Park.

You can feel the atmosphere change as soon as you enter the park. The sounds of the city become quieter, and instead, you can hear birds chirping and the rustling of trees in the wind. Lumpini Park is large, with wide paths, lots of greenery, and numerous places to relax. Here, you can meet joggers, people doing Tai Chi, or simply people who have made themselves comfortable on a bench.

An absolute highlight is the lizards, which also stroll through the area relaxedly. It’s surreal to suddenly see such a huge animal on the sidewalk – almost like a mini safari in the middle of the city.
