People are different, they work in a variety of ways, they’re differently structured or non-structured, and they have different goals. But one thing is for sure: everybody has goals even though they achieve them in different ways. A while ago I wrote a post about how to successfully set and achieve your goals and the tips I shared might not work for everyone, they’re not MUST DO’s, they’re supposed to act as an inspiration. 🙂 Today’s post is similar to the one I shared before; it actually is an addition to the post I shared before. Today I want to share four rules everybody needs to follow to achieve a goal. How you implement these rules is up to you, but one thing is for sure: these four rules are generally valid.
Set realistic goals
First of all, it’s important to set realistic goals. Challenges aren’t wrong at all, but they shouldn’t be huge, they should be conquerable. And as I mentioned before, it’s always a good idea to break down one big goal into smaller steps. Thereby you’ll have more senses of achievement, and you’ll stay motivated.
Set Deadlines
It doesn’t matter how long it’ll take to achieve your goal; it’s your decision. But set yourself a deadline! When having a deadline, it’s easier for you to keep on working on your goal and to move forward even when you suffer a setback. Set not only a time frame for the big goal but also for the small goals you break the big one down to. Of course, not everything will happen exactly when you want to, but as soon as you achieve one of the smaller goals in the time that you have set for yourself, you’ll find yourself satisfied and maybe even more motivated to move forward.
Review your actions
After achieving or not achieving your goals, it’s important to review your actions. What did go well, what didn’t? What lessons did you learn? Try to remember everything, the good and the bad things. The things that worked and the ones that didn’t work to learn for the future.
Learn from your mistakes
When you reviewed all your actions, it’s important to split them into good ones and bad ones. The bad ones are the mistakes you don’t want to repeat. Try to learn from these mistakes. Why did they happen? What could you change? It’s nothing bad about mistakes because mistakes are something completely normal. Everybody makes mistakes; the only difference exists regarding the way one deals with them. You have to learn from your mistakes; that’s key.
